Workforce Training for Future Cybersecurity Professionals

Overview:

The Cyber Security Peer Group is excited to host a virtual Workforce Training for the Future Cybersecurity Professionals panel with a few of Michigan’s leading Cybersecurity Colleges and Universities! The panel will openly discuss topics, such as cybersecurity curriculums, attracting interested students into the cybersecurity programs and improving the pipeline into cybersecurity careers. There will also be an open dialogue, between the attendees, in order to gain a clearer understanding of the needs from hiring managers and how colleges and universities can help to address these needs. Following the event, a Q&A session will be held to allow you to gain answers to your individual questions.

Panelists:

Ed Suniga - Lansing Community College

Jason Mitchell - Lansing Community College

Molly Cooper - Ferris State University

Dr. Lonnie Decker - Davenport University

Mediator:

Laura Clark - Department of Technology, Management and Budget

Cyber-attacks have continued to ravage businesses and organizations of all types and sizes, and there are no signs of this trend slowing down. Businesses and organizations within the Capital region must work diligently to stay on top of cybersecurity trends and best practices but keeping up requires vast resources when done independently. Although the Capital region is replete with industry leaders in the cybersecurity field, opportunities for sharing this expertise have been limited. For these reasons, the CAITC Cybersecurity Peer group was established to share relevant cybersecurity trends and best practices with Capital region businesses and organizations.

Cybersecurity Peer Group Leadership:

Board Champion(s) – Deb Fett – Ingham County, Ed Suniga - LCC

Committee Chair – Laura Clark - DTMB

Committee Co-Chair – Sarah Suzuko - TEKsystems

"I love the peer groups that CAITC has established. I love that I can connect, network, and learn from local IT professionals in my field. I also appreciate connecting with peer groups that I don’t always identify with and learn about opportunities to support and advocate for others. Thank you CAITC for building this community, both in person and virtually!"

"As a founding member of the Capital Area IT Council, our small IT firm has benefitted immensely from our continued participation in the CAITC. I have personally benefitted from CAITC-sponsored training programs, such as the IT Project Management course that I attended, which in turn has helped me to better manage clients/projects and generate new business for my company, while also creating new opportunities to grow professionally."
